Fincher Applauds Stem Cell Decision

Republican congressional candidate Stephen Fincher applauded this week's federal court decision by Judge Royce Lamberth to block President Obama's executive order that violated a congressional ban on federal money being used to destroy human embryos.

Fincher, who has been endorsed by Tennessee Right for Life, stated, "I applaud Judge Lamberth for standing up for human life and standing up for the Constitution. Congress has banned federal financing of human embryo destruction each year by passing the Dickey-Wicker amendment. The Democrats and President Obama side-stepped the law with last year's executive order. This decision puts a stop to that administrative overreach."

Fincher continued, "We can solve the great medical questions of our time without resorting to the destruction of human life. Amazing scientific advances have been made with cord blood and adult stem cell research. As a society we should be encouraging ethical medical practices such as those--not embryonic harvesting that destroys and devalues human life."

The Dickey-Wicker amendment has been passed annually by Congress since 1995 and prohibits federal funding of the creation of human embryos for research purposes or for the research in which human embryos are destroyed. President Obama signed an executive order in 2009 that circumvented the Dickey-Wicker restrictions on federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. Judge Lamberth's decision issued a temporary injunction against that executive order.

Fincher spokesman Paul Ciaramitaro added, "Eighth District voters deserve to know where Democrat Roy Herron stands on this important issue. Does he support taxpayer-funded destruction of human embryos like his choice for Speaker, Nancy Pelosi? Does he believe the President was right to ignore congressional mandates? His answers would say a lot about his true values and his beliefs about unchecked government power. His continued silence makes it clear that he stands with Obama and Pelosi on moral and constitutional issues just as he stands for their job-killing, big-government economic agenda."

Stephen Fincher is a lifelong farmer, businessman, and gospel singer with deep roots in Tennessee, not politics. Stephen and Lynn, his wife of 18 years, proudly raise their three children in Frog Jump.
